About SVBBI

We are glad to inform you that, the strong will power, moral support and inspiration of all Veterinary Biochemists and Biotechnologists of the nation gathered dreams to form our society in the year 1995, with a motive to discuss, analyse and formulate suitable strategies for safeguarding animal health, and thus to ensure improved animal production. The SSVBI organizes annual national conventions and symposia to critically analyse and update our knowledge and understand issues concerning animal production and health.

 

 

                                  ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY AND DEPARTMENT

 

Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences has been established on 1st December, 2010. Presently, the stLala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences has been established on 1College of Veterinary Sciences, the College of Dairy Science and Technology, and the Institute of Para-Veterinary Sciences are the constituent colleges and Institute of the University. The college of Veterinary Sciences has been playing a crucial role in the development of livestock sector as an instrument through its multifarious activities. Under the dynamic leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Gurdial Singh, Worthy Vice-Chancellor, the University is leaving no stone unturned for development of veterinary education, research and extension activities.

 

 

 

The Department of Veterinary Physiology & Biochemistry started functioning in 1948 with the establishment of the Camp Veterinary College at Hisar affiliated to Punjab University, when the college was shifted from Lahore to Hisar. The department was shifted to the present building in the year 1958, and was named as department of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry. Thereafter the Department of Veterinary Physiology was bifurcated into Department of Veterinary Physiology and Department of Veterinary Biochemistry in year 1999 as per VCI guidelines. In June 2011, the three departments of Veterinary Physiology, Animal Production Physiology and Veterinary Biochemistry were merged into single entity christened as Department of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry as per VCI guidelines revised in 2008.

 

 

 The department is continuously working to develop its expertise in teaching, research and animal health care. Its alumni have served and are serving on prestigious positions across the world. The department offers specialization in Veterinary Physiology and Veterinary Biochemistry. The research thrust areas are clinical biochemistry, endocrine and reproductive biochemistry, genomics, proteomics and metabolomics; diagnostics, molecular biology and biotechnology, nutritional biochemistry, environmental physiology and biochemistry etc.
